Kaiser Los Angeles Medical Center

Los Angeles, California

Kaiser Permanente’s Los Angeles Medical Center (LAMC) is the healthcare provider’s largest inpatient hospitals in the United States at 792,000 sq. ft. and serves as a tertiary center for cardiovascular surgery, pediatric and neonatal intensive care, neurosurgery, spine surgery and high-risk obstetrics.

The tight urban site allowed for only a 100,000 sq. ft. footprint for the main hospital with no more than seven storeys above grade and necessitated a highly efficient layout using vertical integration of hospital units to maximize the use of space.
